St Albans Choral Society performs Bach’s St John Passion in St Albans Cathedral on Saturday 23 March at 7.30pm with a stellar line-up of six soloists.
They include tenor Mark Dobell as Evangelist, and St Albans-based bass baritone Edward Grint as Christus, with Rebecca Afonwy-Jones, mezzo soprano, and Kirsty Hopkins, soprano (pictured below).
The performance will be in the original German, with Orchestra Nova conducted by George Vass.
Dobell is a member of The Sixteen and the Westminster Abbey Choir, and Grint is a graduate of the International Opera School at the Royal College of Music. In a previous performance of the Passion, he won praise for the ‘nobility and youth’ of his Christ. The other soloists are tenor Greg Tassell and baritone Felix Kemp. Tickets available from the Cathedral.
