Mayor Janet Smith has joined members of St Albans Choral Society singing with residents at local care home, Grace Muriel House.
A group of singers from the Choir led by Ali Burroughes and others visits local care homes fortnightly to lead senior citizens in well-known songs – and to learn some new ones. “It’s really popular with the residents – they all enjoy a good sing. They’ve been learning some new rounds and even songs in French and German” said Ali. The Mayor is Patron of the Choir and learnt about the group’s visits at the Choir’s AGM. She asked to join in and was made very welcome by staff and residents at Grace Muriel House. The Mayor enjoyed it so much she asked to come again – and returned in January.
The group visits Grace Muriel and Verulam House fortnightly and has recently added Alban Manor. Over a dozen members and former members of the Choir take part. Frank Guest is the much-appreciated accompanist.
Ali would like to hear from any Choir members who would like to help out with the singing which generally takes place on weekday afternoons. A regular commitment is not necessary.
