ENGLISH CHURCH MUSIC CLASSICS – Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Ralph Vaughan Williams

St Albans Choral Society presents an evening of timeless English church music, part of Ralph Vaughan Williams’s 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations taking place in 2022. The programme includes a selection of choral and organ pieces by Vaughan Williams and those close to him including Elgar’s ‘Great is the Lord’, Gerald Finzi’s extended Festival anthem ‘Lo the full final sacrifice’, as well as the music of their contemporaries Herbert Howells and John Ireland, ending with Vaughan Williams’s popular ‘Five Mystical Songs’ to texts by George Herbert, a XVII-century Welsh poet. The concert supports the valuable work of Your Talk, a local mental health charity providing confidential counselling to young people in St Albans and surrounding areas. There will be a collection taking place during the concert.
